We use 925 sterling silver for many of our jewellery. Silver is one of the most used metals as it is timeless and sophisticated. Since 100% pure silver is very soft, you will have to use another metal. Here we use copper so that the silver becomes stronger. Hence the name 925 sterling silver, as 92.5% is pure silver, while the last 7.5% is copper.
Therefore, the products made of pure silver, without gold coating, can withstand water, sweat and perfume.
If, on the other hand, you have a genuine 925 Sterling silver product which is coated with 18K gold - then this will be a thin film/coating of 18 Karat gold. Water, sweat, perfume and possibly other products such as those in soap will wear down the gold plating and over time your jewelery will turn silver.
Is there a difference between silver products?
925 Sterling Silver is the standard in many countries. But the term sterling is also used for products of lower silver purity in other markets. If you see a piece of jewelry marked 800 or 900, you know that it contains less silver than the silver we use. These metals have a lower purity and stand for 800 = 80% silver and 900 = 90% silver respectively.
925 Sterling silver is also used as a coating material by many. You can buy products that are made of brass as a base material, after which a layer of real silver has been added.
Brass is a cheaper and soft product, but a very good substitute for real silver - Since the price of real silver is expensive per grams, then you make chain jewelery or heavier jewellery, then you usually make them in a different basic material in order to be able to sell them at a lower price.
Are you in doubt as to why some of our products are made in 316L steel?
Stainless Steel is a far more durable product that can withstand more than real silver.
We coat our steel products with 18K gold, by a PVD coating. It is a vacuum packing of the gold on the steel metal, which takes place at very high heat, heat at which silver, for example, would normally melt.
That's why the coating is hard-wearing, and you can use our steel jewelery with 18 carat coating, both in the shower, on the beach and during training. However, you must of course be aware of scratches on hard surfaces.
